How Good Is The iPod Interface, Anyway?

There's a bit of a debate going on a ZD Net about the iPod interface - apparently Jason O'Grady, a ZD Net writer, had the temerity to criticize the iPod interface as being out of date in an article on the June 7, stirring up in a controversy that he answered today in an article about what he'd like to see Apply do to the iPod UI in the future. I'll probably offend some hardcore Apple geeks by saying this, but I think Jason's ideas have a lot of merit: as someone who gets pretty obsessive about the ID3 tags on my mp3s, I'd love to be able to have the same editing power on my iPod as I do in iTunes and being able to change what the Now Playing screen shows would be great, too. With the number of wireless devices growing, an iPod where you could hook into your local network (or even a pay service where you connected by cell) to get music, podcasts or videos or download lyrics would be really cool, too.
