  Review of Palm Backup Beta
When I found out that Palm was releasing an over the air backup solution I knew it could have the potential to be just a success. Like their PIM's (Calendar, Contacts, Memos, Messaging and Tasks) there is an elegant simplicity about Palm's applications and it's called "The Zen of Palm". Palm's latest software application was released yesterday, it's called Palm Backup and it's a Beta program at this point. Like all things Palm it's all about simplicity, go to the Palm Backup Beta page , enter your Treo's phone number and Palm sends you an SMS with the link and you download the application right to your Treo. Don't want to wait for the SMS message? To download the Palm® Backup Beta service directly to your device, type http://www.palm.com/backup into your Treo® Smartphone's web browser. Palm couldn't make it simpler.

I had an SMS sent to my Treo 700p and my Treo 680. I installed the application, upon launch you will need to setup an account in order to be able to use the application. You enter an email address and a password, this then gets sent to you to verify your account.

I was ready to perform my first backup. You are greeted with a screen asking you how you'd like to backup your Treo. You can choose Once per day, Once per week, Once per month, and Manual. You can also choose when you want to backup, Morning, Afternoon, Evening, and Overnight. I don't see any options to specify a specific time, but again this is a first release.

When you click the Back up Now button your Treo connects to wirelessly backup your Treo.

I was pretty amazed at watching it do what it's supposed to do, backup all my important information over the air, with no SD card needed.

I have to say that my Sprint Treo 700p had a much quicker backup time than my Treo 680 due to the 700p's EV-DO connection and the 680's EDGE connection.

Once my Treo was finished with the backup I got a message that the backup was complete.

Good backup software is only good if it reliably restores your information. To test this out I deleted all of my calendar, contacts, tasks, call log, and favorites. I hit the restore button and my Treo made a connection to the network and began restoring all of my important information.

I watched as the Backup program was restoring all of my important information, and when it was finished I was greeted with this screen. I'm happy to report that all of my calendar, contacts, tasks, call log, and favorites were all restored. I highly recommend any Palm OS Treo user download and use this software, it's free, and above all it works!! Nice job Palm.
