I'm sure you've seen many benchmarks comparing the iPhone 3GS to the iPhone 3G, Palm Pre, and any other significant contender. I've had the iPhone 3GS since Friday and can tell you it's VERY fast. After having an iPhone 3G for almost a year (upgraded from 1st generation iPhone), the iPhone 3GS feels like Apple has released a device that runs their mobile version of OS X the same way it's big brother runs on Macs, FAST! The speed is noticeable, especially when compared to an iPhone 3G or 1st generation iPhone running iPhone OS 3.0. I no longer need to reset my iPhone 3GS to play certain games, no more tapping an application and getting a few seconds lag before it finally opens. It's how the Apple experience should be.
I also have a Palm Pre and can honestly say that the Pre keeps up with the iPhone 3GS, and blows away the iPhone 3G in terms of speed. Props to Palm for doing what they did with a 1.0 release, the Pre is amazing in its own right (but that's not what this article is about, right? :)).
Check out this video to really see that the iPhone 3GS is FAST, and at times 4 times faster than the iPhone 3G (4 times faster????). In my opinion this video and my experience with the iPhone 3GS gives Apple the right to add the S to the iPhone 3GS and not be gimmicky. The S is definitely for SPEED!*!*!
