The Palm Pixi is to the Palm Pre what the Centro was to the Treo. You get the same great full webOS experience on a thinner, less expensive (sorta, kinda), smaller form factor smartphone. I'm finding the Pixi to be a much more solid device in terms of physicality compared to the Palm Pre. I'm a fan of the QWERTY candybar style that Palm made iconic with the Treo. There's nothing like having a real physical keyboard present at all times.
The Pixi is actually thinner, shorter, and less wide than both the Palm Pre and the iPhone 3GS (it's crazy how small and thin it is). Of course there are some compromises to having those attributes, most notably the screen size. While the Pixi's screen is smaller than the Pre and iPhone 3GS, I really don't find it to be a deal breaker at all. I use a Pre and iPhone 3GS daily and easily adjusted to the smaller screen. I'm also digging the keyboard on the Pixi over the Pre's keyboard and the iPhone 3GS' virtual keyboard.
In my opinion the Palm Pixi definitely holds its own when compared to the Palm Pre and the iPhone 3GS in many respects. Like the Palm Pre it has 8GB of internal storage vs the iPhone 3GS'16GB and 32GB. All three smartphones include access to Sprint and AT&T's 3G network. The Pixi and Pre have consistently beaten AT&T's 3G speeds in my testing and hasn't dropped any calls compared to the iPhone 3GS.
I was seriously considering switching to the Palm Pixi from my Palm Pre, but the clincher for me is the Pixi's lack of WiFi. Palm made a huge mistake by not including WiFi with the Sprint Palm Pixi. Palm won't be making that mistake again since it's all but confirmed that Verizon's Palm Pixi (expected to launch sometime next month) will include built-in WiFi. If the lack of WiFi isn't an issue for you, you're a Sprint customers, want a thin, small, smartphone, with tons of storage, and one of the best mobile operating systems around check out the Palm Pixi. You won't be disappointed.
