HTC is known for making great smartphones for many different smartphone companies. In a move to highlight its own HTC branded smartphones, HTC is launching an ad campaign for the US to get the word out that they make the best Windows Mobile devices. Their new ad definitely looks like HTC is going after the iPhone, even the commercial is very Apple/iPhone like.

NEW YORK - Sprint Nextel Corp. is upgrading one of its cell phone models so that it can connect to a faster data network, doubling its download speeds and boosting upload speeds by about eight times. ADVERTISEMENT
Both Sprint and Verizon Wireless operate so-called EV-DO Rev. A networks, but have used them only for laptop cards. Their fastest phones have used the older and slower EV-DO Rev. 0 network.
Sprint said Monday it was releasing a software update for the Mogul phone, made by HTC Corp. of Taiwan, that will enable the phone to connect at Rev. A speeds. Downloads speeds should be 600 kilobits per second to 1,400 kbps, up from a range of 400 kbps to 700 kbps with Rev. 0. It will be capable of uploads of 350 to 500 kbps, up from 50 kbps to 70 kbps.
Sprint said its broadband network now covers 234 million people, and the vast majority of it has been upgraded to EV-DO Rev. A, short for Evolution-Data Optimized Revision A.
The Mogul is a smart phone that runs Windows Mobile software and can be used as a modem for a laptop. It costs $199.99 with a two-year contract and went on sale in June. The software update will be available immediately from HTC's site.

Mobile Tech Review has written a great review on the HTC S710 Vox .They're very impressed with this new smartphone, so am I. Make sure you check out the review.
Labels: htc, windows mobile
Labels: htc, windows mobile
I've had the HTC S710 Vox for 2 days and wanted to post some first impressions.
Here's a quick rundown of the HTC S710 Vox specs:
Windows Mobile 6 Standard
TI's OMAP 850, 201 MHz processor
Memory: Rom:128MB RAM:64MB SDRAM
2.4" QVGA Transmissive LCD screen
Quad band GPRS + EDGE
802.11b/g WiFi
Bluetooth 2.0
Slide out QWERTY keyboard
2 mega-pixel camera (this camera is unbelievable, takes amazing pictures)
MicroSD expansion
1050mAh battery
******************************************************************************
First and foremost the HTC S710 Vox is a slick, solid, gorgeous smartphone. HTC did an amazing job with the build of this phone. It feels solid, it looks and feels like a luxury phone. HTC used the same soft-touch paint found on the T-Mobile Dash, and is outlined in a mirrored metal face, it's beautiful. While the smartphone is small in size, it's big in high end features. Just take a look at the above specs and you can't help but be impressed.
The screen is sharp and beautiful 2.4 " QVGA, which takes up most of the device. The screen is in portrait mode by default when the phone is in "candybar position", but once you slide it out the keyboard the screen it automatically flips to landscape (very slick).

HTC announced that they would be building their own smartphones under their name besides of making them for other companies. They've also started building their own applications. One of the first applications you'll notice is HTC's Audio Manager. You still get Windows Media on the HTC S710 Vox, but I prefer HTC's Audio Manager. It has some pretty cool features. One of my favorite is being able to set any song in my library as my ringtone, it couldn't be simpler.

HTC also added a note taking application called Quick Notes (most Windows Mobile Smartphones lack this kind of application ). Quick Notes does what the name implies, it allows you to make quick notes right on your Vox. You can decide the size of the font, and where you'd like to save your notes, either Phone memory, Storage Card, or Bluetooth (more about this later).

HTC has also added an application called Bluetooth Explorer which allows for Bluetooth file sharing with other Bluetooth Devices. Bluetooth Explorer searches for other Bluetooth devices that have file sharing enabled and lets you access their Bluetooth shared folder. You can copy files from and to their shared folder, and create subfolders in it. When you enable Bluetooth file sharing on your device , other Bluetooth-enabled devices will be able to access your Bluetooth shared folder. I have a Bluetooth folder setup on my iMac that lets my Vox access it and add or copy files to it. I can also do the reverse. Of course I have a security enabled on my Vox so no other Bluetooth-enabled device can access my Vox unless I provide them the pass key. This is such a cool and useful application.

In this first impression I wanted to touch on some of the cool HTC applications they've added to Windows Mobile 6 Standard. The HTC S710 Vox is one helluva smartphone. Windows Mobile 6 Standard runs pretty fast on it, and I am very impressed. Stay tuned for a more in-depth look at the HTC S710 Vox and how it compares to my other smartphones.

Engadget is reporting that HTC has made an official announcement of what smartphones will receive Windows Mobile6. If you've got one of the above devices you're good to go, if not Windows Mobile 5 will just have to do. HTC is offering this upgrade to smartphones that focus on messaging (don't all of them?), as they feel these smartphones will benefit most. Apologies in advance if your smartphone didn't make the list and feels like the kid not picked in gym class;)Labels: htc, windows mobile
